Let one hour a week surge the meaningfulness felt in your life. Start your story work now.
My husband, Dave, and I loved trying a new recipe, cooking with a glass of wine in hand, and have brownies for dessert while watching a new movie… or two… because we didn’t exactly need an awareness for bedtime. It’s been our thing, together, to relax after work or home on the weekends… until we had kids.
Our days (and nights) are much busier now with two under 2 years old. The rare occasion when my parents ask our oldest, Kendall, to spend the night is always exciting. A few hours of near-freedom is exactly what we need to refresh. Levi goes to bed pretty early, so it’s truly a treat for togetherness.
On this particular night, in the middle of our full belly, couching paradise, we received a call close to 11 p.m. that Kendall was screaming.
Her ear hurt.
Reality set in and we had to go back to being parents. One of us could have went, but trips like this are best done together when you know your child is hurting. I first went into Levi’s room and saw how peaceful he was. Sorry buddy, we’ve gotta go get Kendall. He was so mad when I woke him up and put him in his carseat until that fresh bottle landed on his lips. Happy baby again.
It was about a 30 minute drive to go meet my dad at the halfway point (gas station).
And wouldn’t you know, she was asleep and peaceful when we got her.
Kids in the back, snuggly, and ready to go home. Kendall’s sleepover things tossed in the trunk.
Goodbye, Papa. Time to go home.
We arrive home with two sleepy babies, put them in their beds, and crawled into our bed ourselves.
It was too late for our movie at this point.
That’s sometimes the life as a parent, but something we wouldn’t trade for the world. Kendall did have an ear infection and it was treated.
