Personal stories are memorable.
They’re memorable, because they’re *different* than the “OMG—I love coffee & yoga pants!” most people share *trying* to appear relatable. With your personal stories, you’re sharing from a place of depth. In a world where people are craving connection, your depth sparks your reader to look within. That micro-transformation, even if it is a little off-brand, is memorable. They built trust as your audience sees you as a WHOLE person, not just your job title.
Personal stories make you more than a job title.
Of course your brand is amazing and yields mad RESULTS for your customers, clients, students, etc. Obviously. But limiting your brand content to only 100% on-brand topics robs your potential customers, clients, students, etc. from seeing the big picture beyond the immediate result of working with you. Even if your life looks completely different than theirs, when they read between the lines, they’ll see a WHOLE personal they can connect with, not just your job title. They make showing up // communicating EASY when you feel like your simple biz has said everything it could possibly say on brand.
Personal stories give you more to talk about.
When your brand content bank runs dry and you just plain feel TIRED of talking about the same ‘ol thing… your personal stories can spark refreshing conversations. Remember who you were online *before* you were trying to be all professional brand fancy pants? Draw from THAT well again—just for fun—and see what happens
Glad you asked.
These stories can be old memories or current realities.
They don’t have to be a tale of overcoming trauma or tragedy.
They just have to be something that makes you FEEL something when you put the words out. You’ve gotta feel the heat below the surface.
This is your permission to…
✅ START sharing “content” that feels FUN and more YOU, not all “professional.”
Photographer & Copywriter, Rachel Greiman, gave me fabulous advice about a year ago: return to social media by sharing the way you’d share BEFORE you had a brand.
Start there.
🛑 STOP trying to do marketing the way you see other people doing marketing.
(…I mean it. Go ahead and RISK your usual plan to *TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT* for the next 4-6 weeks.)
✨ RELEASE the guilt of not being a marketing “expert.”
When I taught marketing for my Fearless & Framed® brand, most incoming students believed they “sucked” at marketing.
With that story in their mind, a lot of these students (not all, of course) craved the strategies + steps and discounted their stories AKA the heart of their own perspective…
…and that’s where your SUPERPOWER is at!
Marketing that’s just strategy and showing off authority feels like moving cattle. Feel-good, action-inspiring marketing is filled with STORY and real human experiences.
No one can teach you your stories… they’re already within you. You already have what you need.
I’ve told the story of how Dave (my hubby) & I met dozens of times.
One pillar detail is how I was attracted to his jawline right away.
Through the years, when I’ve shared photos of Dave… no mention of his jawline… some of my audience members will comment:
“There’s that jawline!”
“Oh, I see what you did there!”
In fact, awhile back, I became a hypnosis client of one of my former students, Aubrey Vejvoda. In the visualization, I saw myself + Dave on the side of our mountain, holding hands, and renewing our vows. The sunrise was in the background and the kids were sitting at the picnic table near us.
As Aubrey repeated the story back to me, she legit added in: “And you notice your husband’s seeexxxyyy jawline.”
I about fell off the chair when she said that! Not only did *I FEEL SEEN*, but it was epic proof that our ridiculously TINY, off-brand stories matter.
Moral of the story: My husband’s sexy jawline has helped my brand and that’s just ONE example of an off-brand story WIN.
